11/08/2007 - Semmes, AL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Paula Creamer birdied her final seven holes Thursday to join Meg Mallon in the lead after one round of the LPGA Tournament of Champions.
Mallon and Creamer are tied atop the leaderboard at five-under-par 67.
Suzann Pettersen, who won five times this year including her first major at the McDonald's LPGA Championship, posted a three-under 69 and is tied for third on the Magnolia Grove Crossings Course.
Pettersen was joined in third by Mi Hyun Kim, Seon Hwa Lee, Pat Hurst and Natalie Gulbis.
Women's World No. 1 and defending champion Lorena Ochoa made just one birdie Thursday as she opened with a two-over-par 74 that left her tied for 22nd.
The start of the round was delayed one hour due to frost.
Creamer had a slow start to her round with six straight pars. She stumbled to bogeys on two of the next three holes to turn in plus-two. Creamer started her comeback at the 12th.
She dropped her second shot two feet from the hole at 12 and kicked that putt in for birdie. Creamer followed that with a 13-footer for birdie on 13 that got her back to even-par.
Creamer connected on birdie putts on 14 and 15, both from inside eight feet. She two-putted for birdie on the par-five 16th to move to minus-three.
The 21 year old continued her roll on the 17 where she converted an eight-foot birdie effort. Creamer closed out her round by sinking a 12-foot birdie putt at the last that gave her a share of the lead.
Mallon, who only had three top-20 finishes this year, faltered to a bogey on the par-four first. She recovered that stroke with a birdie on the fourth.
The two-time U.S. Women's Open champion made it two in a row as she birdied the fifth. Mallon fell back to even-par with a bogey at the eighth. Mallon bounced back with birdies on nine and 10 to get to minus-two.
Mallon hit the stick with her tee shot at the par-three 14th. Her ball rolled some 15 feet away from the hole, but it didn't matter as she drained the putt.
After a birdie on 16, Mallon closed with a nine-foot birdie putt at the last to move one clear of Pettersen.
"The delay helped me tremendously. The temperature probably jumped 15 degrees from the time that I got here this morning, so I was very fortunate with that delay," Mallon admitted. "I made a lot of really good putts today. I began hitting the ball closer and closer on the back nine."
Mallon last played five weeks ago at the Navistar LPGA Classic in Alabama.
"Actually this is probably the most unprepared I've ever been for a golf tournament," stated Mallon. "I kind of did some emergency practicing four or five days before this event. I just had no expectations and certainly I'm very happy with the round today."
Se Ri Pak and Jin Joo Hong are tied for eighth at two-under-par 70. Annika Sorenstam is among those one stroke further back at minus-one. She was tied for 10th with Jimin Kang, Kim Saiki-Maloney, Heather Young and Hee-Won Han.

Super Bowl XLIII is now set, the Arizona Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Steelers will meet each other on February 1st in Tampa's Raymond James Stadium to battle it out for the coveted Lombardi Trophy. The game kicks off at 6:00pm ET on NBC with announcers Al Michaels and John Madden covering the on-field action. Super Bowl XLIII betting odds at online bookmaker MySportsbook.com have the Steelers listed as an early -6.5 against the spread favorite.Super Bowl XLIII Betting Odds
Pittsburgh earned their passage to the big game by beating their division rival, the Baltimore Ravens, 23-14 in yesterday's AFC Championship Game. The Steelers jumped on Baltimore early, building a 13-0 first half lead, and never let up on their way to a fairly easy win. Although the Ravens did close to within two points in the fourth quarter, it never appeared as if they had enough offense to pull off the upset.
The Steelers dominating defense held Baltimore to a total of 198 yards while allowing them to convert just three third downs in 13 attempts. Pittsburgh also forced quarterback Joe Flacco into three interceptions, one of which safety Troy Polamalu returned fourty yards for a touchdown.
The Cardinals, by far the playoff team with the longest odds to reach Super Bowl XLIII, did so yesterday with a 32-25 upset of the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship. Arizona charged out of the gates and built a 24-6 halftime lead that had the Eagles venerable defense reeling. Quarterback Kurt Warner and wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald did most of the damage, connecting on three first half touchdowns.
Arizona, however, could not sustain their momentum and the Eagles took a 25-24 with 10:45 left to play in the fourth. The Cardinals, with the franchise's first Super Bowl appearance hanging in the balance, mounted a fourteen play, 72 yard touchdown drive that consumed 7:52 off the clock. Warner hit running back Tim Hightower on a short screen for the go-ahead, game clinching score that will forever live in Cardinal infamy.
MySportsbook.com's Super Bowl XLIII Betting Odds:
Pittsburgh Steelers -6.5 (-110), Over 46.5 (-110), -260 (Money line)
Arizona Cardinals +6.5 (-110), Under 46.5 (-110), +220 (Money line)
Matt Foust won both of his conference championship plays yesterday and he is ready to serve up plenty of Super Bowl action. Each individual play costs $15.00, however, MySportsbook.com recommends purchasing Matt's NFL Playoff Package which includes all of Matt's Super Bowl props and picks from just $45.00.
